The Hope of the Future

SPECIALS

The excitement continued to build. The Best of Breed class nearly filled the ring, when the old champions entered to compete against the new winners! Then the Specials classes started! The Grand Victor and Grand Victrix trophies were presented, as well as certificates and medallions to all of the National Selects that were present. The crowds cheered as they made their "victory" laps around the ring! The judge gave everyone a chance to rush into the ring for hugs, congratulations, and lots of pictures.

Now it was time for the "future generation" to show everyone their skills in the Pee Wee, Junior and Senior handling competition.

My grandsons had arrived at the park just before it started, but I did not have the time to run back to the kennel to get their dogs. Telling 3 and 5 year olds that they had to be "scratched" is not easy! They were very disappointed...But our members would not let me disappoint those little boys and rose to the challenge by offering their dogs for the competition! Dogs that these boys had never worked with (or even knew) before were quickly brought ringside. Andrea's dog Uly was handed to Joshua, while Marcia's Doc was handed to David and the boys were off and running, with everyone cheering them on! What a great testimony to our breed! Both dogs were young, and bigger than the boys but yet so very compliant!

The next two groups of "future" handlers did a much better job presenting their dogs! Unfortunately young Jared had to leave for home early, but the way this group of children handled their dogs was a sight to behold! They displayed fortitude and perseverance rarely seen by many "adults"! Bobby handled his young (sometimes way too playful) puppy  quite well in the regular classes and now presented NS bCh. Beauty to perfection! Johnny had worked very hard with his Teton, and it showed! Nicole honestly did a better job of handling Ch. Stoney then her parents did, while Jessica and her puppy were just adorable! What a group! These young adults are our future, and it was such a pleasure watching them present their dogs!!

We were all having so much fun, we went way past our lunch time! So the FUN Classes were postponed until after the next show!

Yearly since 1974, Shiloh Shepherd™ owners and fanciers from across the continent (and beyond)  have had the privilege of attending Homecoming, an event started by our Breed Founder, Tina Barber, and sponsored, since 1991, by the Shiloh Shepherd™ Dog Club of America, Inc.

Unfortunately we have not been able to share the original pictures taken prior to 1998 due to the tragedy that befell the original Shiloh Shepherds farm, but some of them may still be seen inside of the old Newsletters!!

Thanks to Rich Lewis and Karen Ursel, we have been able to recreate ALL of the recent years, since 1996, and would like to share these pages with you!
